Vernon Search and Rescue Aids Injured Sledder in Hunters Range, Calls for New Recruits

Vernon, BC Friday, February 21, 2025: Once Again Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) volunteers responded to an urgent call from BC Ambulance Service and the RCMP to help extract an injured sledder from the Hunters Range area.

The request for assistance came in around 2:30 PM. VSAR mobilized both air and ground teams in hopes of a swift rescue.

Bad weather prevented the Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society helicopter from reaching the injured sledder.

Despite the bad weather, and thanks to the teamwork of the VSAR ground team, local sledders, and a trail groomer, the injured party was quickly located, stabilized and transported to a waiting BC Ambulance using a rescue toboggan.

This rescue is just one of many the VSAR team undertakes to ensure the safety of the community. The group is currently recruiting new members to bolster its ranks for the 2025 season.

Those interested in joining can attend an Information Session on March 12, 2025, to learn more about the training, time commitments, and the qualities VSAR is looking for in candidates.

“If you have a passion for helping others and want to make an impact in our beautiful Okanagan region, we encourage you to get involved.”

For more information on how to register for the recruitment session, visit Vernon SAR website.
