Highway 97 Blasting Closures At Summerland In November

Updated: Oct 15

On Tuesday, a section of Highway 97 just North of Summerland at the North Beach exit, was closed for BLASTNG for approximately two hours.

The closure was part of a planned operation where crews conducted controlled blasts to remove rocks from the cliff face, as a crucial step in the stabilization process.

The closure led to significant traffic congestion, with vehicles lining up for kilometers between 11 AM and 1 PM.

This is just one of several planned blasting events and closures in the upcoming weeks. If you're planning to travel on Highway 97 between Peachland and Summerland, it's advisable to check Drive BC for real-time updates on road conditions and closures.

The stabilization project aims to secure the area affected by the slide rock incident that occurred on August 8th, 2023.

The entire project is anticipated to span a year and a half, indicating ongoing disruptions in the area due to similar planned closures in the future.
