What Happened at the Vernon Home Depot Fire
Vernon, B.C. – Vernon Fire Rescue responded to a brush fire late Saturday afternoon behind the Home Depot on Anderson Way, near the railway tracks. Witnesses reported seeing two men in the area moments before the fire ignited.
According to one eyewitness, the men appeared to be attempting to light a fire beneath a large tree shortly before 5 p.m.
Eyewitness Accounts of the Vernon Home Depot Fire
One witness told ExNews.net:
“I yelled, ‘What are you doing?’ and they took off running.”
The flames suddenly spread several metres, indicating that a flammable substance may have been used to accelerate the blaze. The pair reportedly fled north along the railway tracks.
The witness also described the smoke as bright white in colour, which could suggest the presence of accelerants.
Emergency Response and Current Status of Vernon Home Depot Fire
Fire crews arrived promptly, accessed the fenced area, and successfully extinguished the fire before it could spread further. Fortunately, no injuries or property damage were reported.
As of now, it remains unclear whether police are investigating or if authorities consider the incident suspicious.
