Fire apparatus convoy spotted southbound through Vernon

August 10 2026 - A convoy of more than a dozen fire and support vehicles, including apparatus from Kamloops Fire Rescue, B.C. Wildfire Service, and several Vancouver Island departments (Oyster River, Saanich, Errington, Port McNeill, Ladysmith and others). was spotted travelling south through Vernon on Highway 97 in the early afternoon of Sunday, August 9.
Their destination remains unconfirmed.
The southbound direction is consistent with a possible redeployment toward the Bald Range wildfire near Summerland, though the units could also be rotating or returning after assignments farther north.

Some members of the group, notably crews from Oyster River Fire Rescue, had been reported working in the Clinton area on the Pear Lake wildfire complex in recent days.
Latest fire status (as of early August 10):
Bald Range wildfire (Summerland/Peachland area): Remains out of control and mapped at approximately 13,618 hectares. Roughly 20,000 people remain under evacuation order. Significant structure loss has been reported and one fatality has been confirmed. Additional structure-protection resources continue to be mobilized.
Pear Lake wildfire (Clinton area, part of the larger Big Bar complex): Still out of control. The Pear Lake fire alone is estimated at roughly 142,900 hectares (about 1,468 square kilometres); the broader complex exceeds 200,000 hectares. Structures have been lost on approximately 120 properties. Progress is being made toward possible re-entry for some Clinton-area residents, but evacuation orders remain in place.
Bradley Creek wildfire (north of Vernon / Okanagan Indian Band lands): Classified as being held at approximately 2,600–2,850 hectares. Structure-protection demobilization has begun and some evacuation orders have been rescinded or downgraded. More than 200 homes were destroyed earlier in the incident.
Province-wide, nearly 22,000 people remain under evacuation orders amid more than 100 active wildfires.
