Emergency Water Outages Begin Tomorrow for Parts of Greater Vernon

Updated: Nov 20

UPDATE – Nov. 20, 2025

Water restored, but repair only partially successful; essential-use restrictions expanded

RDNO says water service has been restored to the outage area; however, the repair was not fully successful, and a temporary fix was needed to get water flowing again.

Additional repair work is required and will involve another water shutoff affecting approximately 10 properties. RDNO staff will notify those homes directly by hand-delivered notice.

RDNO has now moved all customers who were in the outage area into the essential-use-only restriction zone.

Reservoir levels dropped to critical levels during the emergency, and the district is urging everyone in the essential-use area to strictly limit water consumption to only what is necessary.

Residents who now have water should flush taps for a few minutes until the water runs clear.

A Boil Water Notice remains in effect for properties that were part of the outage and now have water restored. It will remain in place until water-quality testing confirms the supply is safe.

UPDATE – Nov. 19, 2025

Water outage extended; essential use continues

RDNO says the emergency water main repair is taking longer than expected.

Water in the outage area is now expected to remain off until approximately 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 20 — about four hours later than previously estimated.

Once service is restored, the precautionary Boil Water Notice will still apply to all affected properties.

RDNO also confirms that “essential use only” restrictions remain in effect for surrounding neighbourhoods, including Old Kamloops Road, Stepping Stones, North BX, Foothills, South BX, and parts of Coldstream.

Residents in these areas are asked to continue limiting water use to only what is absolutely necessary.

November 17 2025 - An emergency water main repair will shut off water service to parts of East Hill and South BX starting 7 p.m., Tuesday, November 18.

The Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) says the outage is expected to continue until the repair is finished, with water restoration estimated around 7 a.m. Thursday, November 20.

Residents in the outage area will have no water available during this period and are urged to store enough water for cooking, cleaning, and toilet use. An update is expected Wednesday, November 19.

When water does return, all affected homes will automatically be placed under a precautionary Boil Water Notice.

RDNO says the pressure loss during the shutdown may compromise water quality, and residents must boil water for at least one minute before drinking, cooking,

brushing teeth, making beverages or ice, or washing produce.

The Boil Water Notice will remain in effect until RDNO sampling confirms the water is safe.

Essential Use Only in Other Neighbourhoods

A wider surrounding area — including Old Kamloops Road, Stepping Stones, North BX, Foothills, South BX, and parts of Coldstream — is not losing service but must immediately limit water use to essential household needs only. This includes drinking, food preparation, toilets, pets, livestock, and other personal essential uses.

What to Expect When Water Returns

Once repairs are completed, properties may temporarily experience low pressure, discoloured water, or air in the lines. RDNO advises running a cold-water tap until the water clears. An outdoor tap is preferred, but bathtubs may be used during colder weather.
