Emergency Alert Cancelled After Deadly Shooting at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School
TUMBLER RIDGE, B.C. February 10 2026 - A police emergency alert issued Tuesday afternoon after reports of an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School has been cancelled, and RCMP say there are no outstanding suspects and no ongoing threat to the public.
Tumbler Ridge RCMP responded to the school at approximately 1:20 p.m., issuing a localized Police Initiated Public Alert (PIPA) and instructing residents to shelter in place while officers secured the area.

In an evening update, RCMP confirmed the suspected shooter was located deceased inside the school with what appears to be a self-inflicted injury. Police stated they do not believe there are any additional suspects unaccounted for.
Six other individuals were found deceased inside the school. Two victims were airlifted to hospital with serious or life-threatening injuries, and another person died while being transported to hospital.
Approximately 25 others were assessed and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
As part of the ongoing investigation, officers identified a secondary residence believed to be connected to the incident, where two additional individuals were found deceased.
All remaining students and staff were safely evacuated from the school. RCMP said they are working closely with the school district to coordinate reunification efforts for families.
The shelter-in-place order has now been lifted.
BC RCMP Major Crime has assumed conduct of the investigation and continues to examine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Additional officers and specialized units remain in the community to support the investigation and victim services.
On social media, community members expressed deep concern for students and families, along with shock and heartbreak over the events that unfolded in the small northeastern B.C. community.
Police say further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
