May 4 2026 - British Columbia is experiencing a classic early-season wildfire pattern today, with hot, dry, and sunny conditions drying out vegetation across much of the province.


The BC Wildfire Service reports 28 active wildfires currently burning.

The lone Out of Control fire is N40233 (Kelly Creek) in the Southeast Fire Centre. This small, human-caused fire was discovered today and is currently just 1 hectare in size. It is located near Kelly Creek and remains out of control, meaning it is either spreading or anticipated to spread beyond the current perimeter. No evacuations or area restrictions are in place for this incident.


Most other active fires are well-managed and under control, with 124 firefighting personnel, 19 aircraft, and heavy equipment deployed across the province.


Weather & Outlook

Stronger winds are forecast for tomorrow (especially in the north and central regions) and into Wednesday. Officials are warning that any new ignitions could grow quickly under these conditions. An open fire prohibition is planned for parts of the Prince George Fire Centre, and residents are urged to check current fire bans before any outdoor burning.
