Crash Closes Highway 97 in Both Directions

UPDATE July 8, 2025: On Monday, July 7, 2025, a tragic crash occurred around 8:20 p.m. on Highway 97 near Tonasket Road, between Vernon and Kamloops. A northbound Subaru crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a southbound Mercedes. The 36-year-old Vernon man driving the Subaru was rescued and taken to hospital but sadly passed away. The driver and passenger in the Mercedes received non-life-threatening injuries. Highway 97 was closed for several hours to allow emergency crews and police to respond and investigate. The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP continues to investigate the incident.
Original Story - July 7, 2025: VERNON, B.C. – A serious two-vehicle crash has shut down Highway 97 in both directions Monday evening.

The collision occurred just before 8:30 p.m. on Highway 97 near Round Lake Road, west of Vernon. Emergency services responded swiftly to the scene, including BC Ambulance, Vernon Fire Rescue Services, and the RCMP.
Several occupants were inside the two passenger vehicles involved. Witnesses say firefighters used the jaws of life to free at least one person trapped in a vehicle.

Authorities have not yet released any information regarding the number or severity of injuries.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the highway remains closed for investigation and cleanup.
