The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is warning businesses and residents after several reports of counterfeit Canadian and U.S. bills surfaced since May.

Police say the fake money has shown up at local businesses and urge people to be vigilant when handling cash. “Counterfeit cash can result in financial losses,” said Const. Chris Terleski. “But if you know what to look for, fake bills won’t stand up.”
Tips include checking for transparent windows, holograms, raised ink, and unique serial numbers. Staff are encouraged to use tools like UV scanners or counterfeit pens, especially when handling large bills.
Suspected counterfeit bills should be reported to police. More info is available at the Bank of Canada and U.S. Currency Education Program websites.
