Weather Forecast
Snow is expected to taper off near noon, followed by mainly cloudy skies through the afternoon.
Snow levels will lower from 1100 m to around 800 m this morning, with 5–10 cm of new snow possible along the summit and Zopkios Ridge. Winds remain gusty through midday, easing later in the afternoon. Tonight will stay mostly cloudy with a few flurries developing, and snow levels again dipping to around 800 m by morning. More flurries are likely Monday, with continued gusty winds.
Current Conditions (as of mid-morning)
DriveBC reports slushy sections and active snowfall between Exit 202 (Portia) and Exit 256 (Coldwater Road) - roughly 55 km of higher elevation terrain between Hope and Merritt.
The Little Bear weather station (1660 m, near the Great Bear Snowshed) is showing –4 °C, light to moderate southwest winds (10–25 km/h), and continued light snow.
Overnight Summary
Zopkios Ridge and the Great Bear Snowshed area received an estimated 5–10 cm of fresh snow overnight, adding to slushy and slippery conditions this morning. Temperatures remain below freezing at summit elevations.
Travellers Advisory
Winter driving conditions are in effect. Expect reduced visibility, slushy or compact snow on the road surface, and gusty crosswinds in exposed areas.
Conditions are expected to gradually improve later today once snowfall tapers, but flurries and blowing snow could redevelop overnight.
