Coldstream’s Aberdeen Road grading nears completion ahead of final paving
COLDSTREAM, BC Nov. 3, 2026 - The remaining section of Aberdeen Road is nearing the end of grading work as crews prepare the surface for asphalt, marking the last major step before the long-closed roadway can reopen.
Sewer installation on the District of Coldstream’s Aberdeen sanitary trunk sewer project is already complete, including the main and service connections from Selkirk Drive to Wisbey (Whisbey) Drive. Road restoration has been underway, with paving finished between Whisbey Drive and Rendell Drive.
The remaining sections are scheduled for asphalt in the first week of November once grading wraps up.
After paving, crews will complete driveway and landscape restoration, line painting, and final cleanup. The road is expected to reopen to through traffic around mid-November.
Aberdeen Road has been closed to through traffic since early February (following a winter pause), with only local access and emergency vehicles permitted. A signed pedestrian and bicycle corridor has remained open along the west shoulder. Detours have primarily used Highway 6, Kalamalka Road, and Middleton Drive.
The project, awarded to Chapman Industries for $4,093,121.27 plus GST, also includes widening the road to create safer paved shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists and is intended to support housing development in the area.
Work began in June 2025 near the Selkirk Drive intersection. Unexpected bedrock required specialized drilling and slowed early progress. On July 24, 2025, a gas line on Aberdeen Road was struck and repaired the same day by FortisBC. Additional delays occurred at the CN Rail crossing, where poor soil conditions required an alternative drilling method, formal CN approval, and specialized equipment.
These issues pushed the project past the original October 1, 2026 reopening target.
