Central Okanagan officials: Evacuation orders must be followed

RDCO officials issue stern reminder to residents remaining in Quilpituk Creek wildfire zones

August 7 2026 - Central Okanagan Emergency Management is reminding residents still in areas under Evacuation Order for the Quilpituk Creek wildfire that the order is a mandatory life-safety measure and must be followed.

In a notice issued Friday afternoon, officials said some people have chosen to stay despite the order. They stressed that remaining puts residents, their families and first responders at risk, especially as forecast winds could increase fire activity in the coming days.

The evacuation route is south on Westside Road. Residents should follow directions from emergency personnel and traffic control.

Those who stay should not expect reliable access to emergency services, power or drinking water. Deliveries of food, fuel or other supplies into order areas are not permitted.

Multiple Evacuation Orders and Alerts remain in effect. Residents can check the latest map at coemergency.ca/map to confirm if their property is affected.

Emergency Support Services are available for those who evacuate, including registration at ESS.gov.bc.ca and in-person help at the Westbank Lions Community Centre and Royal LePage Place Arena in West Kelowna.
