Penalties issued:

  • $483 fine for excessive speeding (over 60 km/h above the posted limit)

  • Seven-day impound of the vehicle

  • Full cost of the tow and impound fees

  • Potential ICBC licensing and insurance penalties

The driver, a 21-year-old man from Burnaby, was clocked at 194 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

A BC Highway Patrol officer riding a BMW R1200 motorcycle spotted the blue BMW M3 coupe just before 11:00 p.m. last Thursday evening near Lions Bay.

“This could have ended in tragedy,” said Corporal Michael McLaughlin with BC Highway Patrol. “There have been a high number of fatalities in recent weeks on BC highways, and too much speed is almost always a factor.

Our officers would much rather give you a ticket, tow and impound rather than have to tell your family that you’re not coming home.”
