Bucket Brigade Douses Fire in Silver Star Foothills

Just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, reports of a grass fire came in from the Silver Star foothills.

BX Swan Lake Fire Rescue responded to a rural property in the 5900 block of Ranch Road, where they found residents had already knocked down much of the blaze, estimated at about 200 square metres, using a classic “bucket brigade.”

A bucket brigade is an old-fashioned firefighting method in which people form a line to pass buckets of water from a source to the fire, working quickly together to contain the flames.

Fire crews completed the job the residents had started, ensuring the area was fully extinguished.
