Three structures destroyed in overnight fire at Mara Sands Resort

July 28 2026 Mara Lake - A fire that broke out just after midnight on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, destroyed three structures at Mara Sands Resort on Highway 97A in Mara, British Columbia.

The early morning blaze, located in the 8200 block of Highway 97 A, south of Mara Provincial Park, quickly spread through the structures.
Residents of Mara Sands and the neighbouring Club Mara Resort worked to keep tall hedge trees between the properties from catching fire, helping limit the spread until emergency crews arrived.
Three area fire departments, Enderby, Ranchero Deep Creek and Swansea Point responded, with additional support from helicopters believed to be dispatched by the BC Wildfire Service.
Arriving firefighters found the three structures fully involved and focused on protecting nearby buildings.
Several vehicles were also destroyed.
Adjacent properties appear to have sustained heat damage, including siding and possibly some fencing.
No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire has not been released.
The Regional District of North Okanagan stated that Emergency Support Services have not been activated.
