Westside Road Fire Damage

We get our first look at the heartbreaking scope of destruction left by the Bradley Creek wildfire along the north end of Okanagan Lake.

August 4 2026 - Last week the Louis Estates and Newport areas were full of homes and businesses. Now much of the North Okanagan communities are little more than a burn scar.

New images show charred trees, piles of rubble, burned-out vehicles, collapsed structures, and scorched hillsides dominating the Okanagan Lake shore.

Docks and boats remain in the lake while the land behind them is reduced to ash and debris in many places.

Some houses still stand amid the destruction, highlighting how the fire tore unevenly through the community.

There are still no official structure loss numbers. By some estimates, over 200 homes and structures were destroyed, but these remain preliminary and unconfirmed.

Full ground assessments are ongoing due to hazards including downed power lines and unstable trees. The area has been described as looking like a war zone.

The wildfire, believed to be human-caused, started near the Bradley Creek forestry road, grew rapidly under extreme winds earlier this week and is now estimated at more than 2,600 hectares.

It remains out of control, though cooler conditions in recent days have limited further growth and allowed crews to focus on mopping up hotspots and protecting remaining properties.

Evacuation orders continue for the entire Okanagan Indian Band IR 1 and nearby areas.

Roughly 1,700 customers remain without power after extensive damage to hydro infrastructure.

These images provide one of the clearest views yet of the scale of loss along Westside Road and the surrounding lakeside neighbourhoods.
