Vernon BC - The graceful Great Blue Herons are back in Vernon for another nesting season.

Just a few blocks from the downtown core, these large birds have returned to their traditional protected nesting area in a stand of tall trees.

The herons can be seen settling into family life, continuing a yearly tradition.

The birds typically build their large stick nests high in cottonwood and other tall trees, where they will soon lay eggs and raise their young.

This colony has become a familiar sign of spring for Vernon residents.

The heronry is located in a protected wooded zone and remains a provincially safeguarded site. Residents are reminded to observe the birds from a respectful distance to avoid disturbing the nesting colony.
