BC Hydro: Prepare for prolonged outages after wildfire destroys 100+ power poles

BC Hydro reports extensive damage from Bradley Creek wildfire; 3,500+ customers may face prolonged outages

August 2 2026 - BC Hydro crews are responding to significant infrastructure damage from the Bradley Creek wildfire, which has left more than 3,500 customers without power in the Westside Road, Vernon and Spallumcheen areas since Saturday.

Preliminary assessments have identified well over 100 damaged distribution structures, including power poles and related equipment.

More damage may still be found as access improves.

BC Hydro’s priority remains supporting wildfire response and ensuring the area is safe for firefighting crews. The utility is working closely with BC Wildfire Service and local fire departments, securing damaged electrical equipment and clearing roadways.

On Sunday, crews were active in the Westside Road area assessing damage and supporting firefighting efforts.

BC Hydro warn customers should prepare for extended outages while crews complete assessments and develop a restoration plan.

Restoration depends on wildfire activity, weather, site access and safe working conditions. Further outages remain possible if conditions change.
