High-Elevation Routes Remain Open, Winter Driving Conditions in Effect

December 27 2025 - Most major highways across British Columbia remain open Saturday, but winter driving conditions continue to impact high-elevation routes, particularly the Hope to Princeton corridor via Allison Pass.

Compact Snow on Coquihalla

Environment Canada says periods of snow early this morning on Highway 3 have ended, with clearing conditions expected through the day. Gusty winds remain a concern at higher elevations, and motorists should expect slow travel and possible delays through Allison Pass.

The Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt is forecast to see a mix of sun and cloud today, with light winds, while similar conditions are expected on the Okanagan Connector between Merritt and Kelowna.

Drivers should still be prepared for compact snow, slush, and icy sections, especially near summit areas.

On the Trans-Canada Highway between Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, clearing skies are expected today, though strong winds and extreme cold overnight, with temperatures dipping to minus 21, may affect road conditions.

Flurries are possible Sunday afternoon.

In the Southern Interior, mainly sunny but cold conditions are forecast across the Okanagan, Similkameen, Thompson, Shuswap, and Fraser Canyon regions through the weekend, with wind chills well below zero in many areas.

Drivers are reminded that winter conditions can change quickly. Motorists are urged to slow down, drive to conditions, and check DriveBC for the latest highway updates, including any Bruhn Bridge closures near Sicamous.
