11th Hour Deal Hammered Out
December 1st, 2023: In a last-minute agreement on December 1, 2023, the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream, and RDNO Electoral Areas B and C have finalized a 'fee for service' deal for recreational services. Under this agreement:
Coldstream will contribute - $722,103
RDNO Electoral Area B - $369,547
RDNO Electoral Area C - $365,299
The deal ensures residents of the four areas will enjoy equal access and user rates. The agreement spans three years, starting January 1, 2024, with annual contributions adjusted for inflation.
This resolution follows an unsuccessful negotiation in 2023, where the Greater Vernon partners couldn't reach a funding agreement, prompting the City of Vernon to consider a tiered system for recreation services.
