Cantilever Bar Wildfire Grows to 460 Hectares, Prompts Evacuation Alerts Near Lytton
LYTTON, B.C. – The Cantilever Bar wildfire 10 kilometers south of Lytton on the west side of the Fraser River, has grown to 460 hectares as of July 30, 2025. Classified as out of control. Suspected to be human-caused.


1492 Days Since Lytton Fire
Lives Lost: Two civilians
Date of Fire: June 30, 2021
Structures Lost: Over 200 homes and businesses, including post office, health centre, RCMP detachment, and Lytton Chinese History Museum (1,600 artifacts)
Days Since Fire: 1,492 (as of July 30, 2025)
Cause: Undetermined, despite investigations by the RCMP and BC Wildfire Service.


New Overpass Takes Shape at Tank Hill on Highway 1
The Tank Hill Project involves building a new overpass spanning the Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) railway, along with highway upgrades to support the structure. It also includes a creek crossing with channel improvements and enhanced drainage under the highway.
The goal is to restore connectivity after floodwaters damaged a 100-meter stretch of Highway 1 and rail infrastructure.
The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure expects completion by November 2025
