1492 Days Since Lytton Fire

July 2025 - Lytton, BC – Over 1,492 days since a devastating wildfire razed Lytton on June 30, 2021, the village is slowly rebuilding.


Triggered after a record 49.6°C heatwave, the fire destroyed 90% of the village.


Over 200 homes and businesses, including post office, health centre, RCMP detachment, and Lytton Chinese History Museum

Rebuilding has been slowed by bureaucratic delays and soil remediation, with only a quarter of pre-fire buildings permitted by June 2025.


  • Lives Lost: Two civilians

  • Date of Fire: June 30, 2021

  • Structures Lost: Over 200 homes and businesses, including post office, health centre, RCMP detachment, and Lytton Chinese History Museum (1,600 artifacts)

  • Days Since Fire: 1,492 (as of July 30, 2025)

  • Cause: Undetermined, despite investigations by the RCMP and BC Wildfire Service.
