LYTTON, B.C. – The Cantilever Bar wildfire (K71095), located 10 kilometers south of Lytton on the west side of the Fraser River, has grown to 460 hectares as of July 30, 2025, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
The fire, discovered on July 28, 2025, is classified as out of control, with overnight growth attributed to clearer skies allowing aircraft to map the perimeter more accurately.
The fire, suspected to be human-caused, is displaying rank 2 and 3 behavior, characterized by low to moderately vigorous surface fire with a slow to moderate spread rate, open flames, and occasional candling.
Growth has been primarily upslope and northward, driven by hot, dry conditions with temperatures nearing 40°C and relative humidity at 12%.
Winds remain light but terrain-driven, with gusts up to 25 km/h.Evacuation alerts have been issued by the Thompson Nicola Regional District, Lytton First Nation, Skuppah First Nation, and Siska First Nation for properties on the west side of the Fraser River, north of the fire.

Structure protection personnel are assessing properties and setting up sprinklers to safeguard homes. No structures have been reported as immediately threatened, but the fire’s proximity to Highway 1 has prompted warnings for motorists to drive cautiously due to high visibility of the fire and smoky conditions.
The BC Wildfire Service has deployed 31 firefighters, supported by six single resources and four helicopters, with a night vision-equipped helicopter bucketing water overnight. Crews are focusing on water access, fuel removal, and guard construction on the fire’s south and north flanks.
Despite smoky conditions, local wind gusts are expected to improve visibility.
