A wildfire, identified as Fire Number N51141, is burning out of control north of Nakusp.
Currently the blaze is located 4.8 km north of the Highway 23 and Turner FSR intersection, near MacLeod Creek in the Southeast Fire Centre.
Discovered on July 30, 2025, the fire has grown to 119 hectares as of the latest update on August 1, 2025, at 4:57 p.m. PDT. Authorities suspect lightning as the cause.
BC Wildfire Service reports that crews and heavy equipment are actively engaged on the steep, rugged terrain.
A Unit Crew, supported by a heavy equipment strike team, is constructing control lines, utilizing an existing road network to develop a machine guard on the west side and handlines along the south.

The southwest corner’s handline will connect to a 2018 burn scar to bolster containment efforts. Air assessments on July 31 determined that retardant drops are ineffective due to the terrain.
Fire activity has decreased in the last 24 hours due to higher relative humidity and cooler temperatures.
No structures or infrastructure, including Highways 6 and 23, are currently threatened.
