In Vernon, water shortages and the ongoing drought were repeatedly cited by both voters and the three mayoral candidates. Stage 3 water restrictions, agricultural demand, and questions about how much new housing the region can support were central themes at candidate forums.

Homelessness and public safety also ranked high, with candidates debating supportive housing, treatment services, and the impact on the downtown business community.

Housing growth and infrastructure costs ran through most campaigns. Candidates discussed provincial housing targets, the long-term expense of new subdivisions, and the city’s infrastructure deficit.

In Coldstream, protecting agricultural land and rural character were additional priorities alongside water supply.

Smaller communities saw similar themes. In Lumby, candidates focused on water, sewer, and roads amid growth pressure.

Across the region, property taxes and the balance between basic infrastructure and amenities were frequent talking points.

These issues shaped a contest that saw three of five sitting mayors defeated.

Full unofficial results remain available from municipal sources and localelections.ca. Official results will be declared by October 21.
