Vernon Trees Cut Down

Vernon Encampment Site Cleared, Trees Now Being Removed

November 4 2025 - The homeless encampment at Highway 97 and 48th Avenue in Vernon, known for its treehouse, was removed last month.

Work has resumed this week with crews cutting down trees and clearing vegetation along the treed roadside.

The treehouse was highly visible to drivers on Highway 97 near 48th Avenue.

It drew attention on social media starting in late summer, with discussions peaking in September on local Facebook groups.

Comments ranged from support for the residents to frustration over government delays.

Responsibility for the land falls to the B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

Crews arrived on October 22 to dismantle the treehouse and clear the camp. Highway 97 was reduced to one lane during the operation. The initial cleanup appeared complete by late October.

Crews and heavy equipment returned this week.

This week excavators and trucks were active again, removing trees and undergrowth.
