Boil Water Advisory Still in Effect for Vernon Secondary Area Ahead of Monday Return

January 2 2026 - If the precautionary boil water advisory remains active for parts of Vernon, including Vernon Secondary School, its unlikely Mondays return from winter break would be effected.

Last Tuesday, Dec. 30  a large watermain break caused a loss of water pressure in the Pottery Road and 18th Street area.

The notice was issued by the Regional District of North Okanagan (RDNO) in conjunction with Interior Health and is posted on the RDNO website. rdno.ca

The advisory affects properties on 18 Street (from Pottery Road to 23 Avenue), 21 Avenue, and some sections of Pottery Road, and includes the area where Vernon Secondary is located.

Residents and businesses in the affected zone are being advised to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute before using it for drinking, preparing food or beverages, brushing teeth, making ice, or washing produce. rdno.ca

As of now, School District No. 22 (Vernon) has not posted any official announcement confirming whether the advisory will affect Vernon Secondary’s return from winter break on Monday, Jan. 5.

No updates appear on the district’s public homepage about closures, schedule changes, or operational impacts. School District No. 22 (Vernon)

The district does not have a publicly posted, standalone policy specific to boil water advisories. In general, provincial water quality guidance in B.C. allows facilities such as schools to continue operating during a precautionary boil water notice by implementing routine safeguards, most commonly arranging for bottled water or boiled water supplies for drinking and food-related uses, and using tap water for non-ingestion purposes like handwashing and sanitation. RDNO says the boil water advisory will remain in place until water sample testing confirms the system is safe.
