February 2 2026 - Once again Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) came to the aid of a person in the back country. This time it was a first-time snowmobiler who became separated from their three-person group and ran out of fuel.

The rescue was executed Saturday evening in the Hunters Range area.
According to VSAR, the individual made the decision to call 911 after becoming stranded without shelter, fire-starting equipment, or a backup means of communication once their cellphone battery died.
Heavy, wet snow moved into the area later in the day, and the snowmobiler, wearing cotton clothing and a down jacket, was soaked and very cold by the time rescuers arrived.
The remaining two members of the group reached the location shortly after VSAR made contact.
The reunited group was guided to the nearest Hunters Range Snowmobile Association cabin, where they were able to warm up, partially dry their gear, and change into dry clothing provided by rescuers.
VSAR then escorted the group down the mountain and transported them safely to Enderby.
Search and rescue officials would like to thank members of the Hunters Range Snowmobile Association for assisting with local knowledge during the response.
