The group with the rider activated a Zoleo satellite SOS device, allowing rescuers to quickly establish communication and coordinate a response.

VSAR deployed 19 members, along with trucks, snowmobiles, medics, a rescue toboggan, and the Heli Winch Rescue Team.

The patient was assessed on scene and later transported by VSAR’s Air Rescue One helicopter, where care was transferred to BC Emergency Health Services.

In a post on Facebook, VSAR praised the preparedness of those involved, noting that the satellite communication device and essential gear significantly sped up the rescue and supported patient care while crews were en route.

Search and rescue officials are reminding anyone heading into the backcountry to plan ahead and be prepared, recommending BC AdventureSmart as a planning resource.

VSAR also thanked partnering agencies and volunteers, including the Air Rescue One Heli Winch Society, for a smooth and successful operation.
