Murder charge laid in 2023 Vernon death; first court appearance set

UPDATE - On December 1, 2025, the BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of second-degree murder against Dale Christopher Lloyd Babiy of Vernon, BC. Mr. Babiy was arrested by the BC RCMP Major Crime Unit and he remains in custody.
December 5 2025 - A second-degree murder charge has been approved in connection with the 2023 death of 30-year-old Miguel Suzor, whose body was discovered on a forest service road near Proctor Lake more than two years ago.
Suzor's body was discovered on July 2, 2023, and his death was immediately deemed suspicious. The RCMP’s E-Division Major Crime Unit took over the investigation, later releasing a photo of Suzor and asking the public for information about his movements and behaviour around the time he was last seen.

Following what police describe as a lengthy and thorough investigation, the BC Prosecution Service approved a second-degree murder charge against a Vernon man on Dec. 1. The accused was arrested shortly afterward and remains in custody.
A first court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 11 in Vernon Provincial Court.
Early hearings in cases of this nature are typically procedural, dealing with issues such as confirming legal representation, transferring initial police disclosure to defence counsel, and scheduling future court dates as the matter proceeds through the system.
Police say no further details are being released at this time.
