Vernon House Seriously Damaged in Tuesday Afternoon Fire

July 7 2026 - A house in the 1900 block of 25th Avenue was heavily damaged by fire Tuesday after flames and smoke were reported shortly after 5 p.m.

Multiple callers to 911 reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the residence. Vernon Fire Rescue arrived with four pieces of equipment and quickly took command of the scene.Witnesses said two neighbours, one from next door and another from across the street, attempted to battle the blaze with garden hoses before firefighters arrived, but had only limited success.

At one point the house was completely shrouded in smoke

A front exterior wall and decoratve tree showed signs of fire damage and continued to smoulder, while smoke poured through broken roof tiles. Firefighters who entered the home directed hoses upward toward the roof, with water visibly cascading through openings in the roofline.

RCMP, BC Hydro, and Fortis crews also attended the scene. There were no immediate reports of injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
