Vernon BC Power Restored

Power Restored in Vernon BC after Outage Hits Business District

Nearly 1,800 BC Hydro customers were left without electricity in Vernon on Sunday evening following a major power outage.

The blackout began around 6:41 p.m. and was restored by 8:35 p.m., affecting 1,774 customers in the area north of Highway 6, south of Rimer Road, west of Phillips Road, and east of 40th Avenue. BC Hydro lists the cause as “other.”

Businesses in the busy service area, including restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and big-box retailers were hit

The outage wasn’t limited to homes. Businesses in the busy service area — including restaurants, gas stations, hotels, and big-box retailers — were also impacted.

Some diners had no choice but to cut their evening short when it became clear power wouldn’t return quickly, while hotel guests had to wait outside as check-ins were halted.

Fortunately, warm evening weather made the delay easier to manage.
