Highway 1 Update, February 23, 2025: Highway 1 has reopened following a closure for avalanche control and mitigation. Although the highway is open, there is still a risk of falling rocks between Golden and Yoho Bridge, particularly 5 km east of Golden.

Drivers should be cautious of slippery sections and compact snow, especially around the Yoho National Park boundary and east of Golden. Additionally, there is a warning for no stopping in avalanche zones, as conditions remain hazardous.

The weather forecast includes snow, with a potential accumulation of 5 to 10 cm tonight, and continued snow showers expected through Monday. Avalanche Canada advises that persistent weak layers may remain unstable, and new snow requires time to bond and stabilize.

Additional Closures and Restrictions

Large sections of Glacier National Park are closed due to avalanche control using explosives. Parks Canada has warned that the incoming storm will heavily load weak layers, increasing the risk of natural and human-triggered avalanches. Travel in avalanche terrain is strongly discouraged.

Highway conditions remain treacherous, with pooling water, slush, and slippery sections reported near Revelstoke. Vehicle recovery operations west of Revelstoke will also cause delays.
