Trans-Canada Highway closed both ways east of Sicamous after serious crash

UPDATE: RCMP Release Details of Fatal Highway 1 Crash East of Sicamous

SICAMOUS, September 3, 2026: Sicamous RCMP have released additional details about the fatal collision that closed Highway 1 east of Sicamous for most of the day on September 1.

Police say the collision occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. near Arnold Frontage Road, on an undivided two-lane section of Highway 1.

According to RCMP, a westbound SUV crossed the centre line and entered the path of an eastbound sedan, resulting in a collision at highway speeds.

The driver and lone occupant of the eastbound sedan was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and lone occupant of the westbound SUV was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP say road conditions were excellent, with no precipitation and excellent visibility at the time of the crash.

Police have also confirmed that alcohol has been ruled out as a factor.

An RCMP collision analyst attended the scene to assist Sicamous RCMP with the investigation.

Highway 1 remained closed for approximately eight and a half hours while the collision scene was processed.

Eagle Valley Rescue, Sicamous Fire Department, BC Ambulance, AIM highway maintenance and the Ministry of Transport assisted police at the scene.

A detour was available for passenger vehicles using Solsqua Sicamous Road. Commercial truck traffic, however, was required to wait until the highway reopened.

The RCMP release identifies the SUV and sedan as the two vehicles involved in the collision and does not mention the semi-truck.

A semi-truck was present at the scene but was not mentioned in the RCMP release and is not said to have been involved in the collision.

The investigation remains with Sicamous RCMP.

UPDATE: The Trans-Canada is open. One deceased victim was removed from the crash scene approximately 2 PM.

Unconfirmed report are two passenger vehicles and one semi were involved in the crash.

DriveBC reports the highway is shut from Arnold Frtg Rd to Arnold Frtg Rd. Motorists should watch for traffic control. There is no estimated reopening time in the latest advisory.

September 1 2026 7:30 AM, SICAMOUS, B.C. - The Trans-Canada Highway (Highway 1) is closed in both directions again just east of Sicamous following reports of a serious crash Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews were responding in the Solsqua area, where live traffic mapping showed significant slowdowns and stoppages along the corridor between Sicamous and points farther east toward Revelstoke.

No official details on injuries, the number of vehicles involved, or the exact cause were immediately available.

DriveBC and local authorities had not posted a confirmed estimated reopening time at time of writing.

Motorists heading east from Sicamous or west from Revelstoke may face major delays.
