Environment Canada issues snowfall warning for North Okanagan and surrounding regions
December 1, 2025, 11:03 a.m. PST - Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Snowfall Warning for several Interior regions, including the North Okanagan (Vernon), Shuswap, North and South Thompson, and the Southern Cariboo, where 10 to 15 centimetres of snow is expected through the day.

A Pacific frontal system is moving into the B.C. Interior, bringing steady snowfall that will continue into tonight before tapering off. The agency notes a risk of freezing rain at times, particularly in the Southern Cariboo and 100 Mile House area.
The warning covers major routes including Highway 1, Highway 5, and Highway 97.
Drivers are advised to prepare for hazardous travel, slippery surfaces, and rapidly changing conditions.
Accumulating snow may make roads and walkways difficult to navigate, and localized disruptions to travel or services are possible.
Typically, snowfall warnings are issued when significant impacts are expected from accumulating snow.
Environment Canada encourages residents to monitor updates and welcomes severe weather reports via BCstorm@ec.gc.ca or on X using #BCStorm.
Yellow = Be Aware
Snowfall is expected, often around 10–15 cm, depending on the region.
Travel may be affected — roads can become slippery, visibility may drop, and driving could be slower.
It’s a moderate-impact event: not extreme, but enough to cause issues if you’re not prepared.
Confidence is usually high that the snowfall will occur.
How it compares to other alerts
Yellow Warning: Moderate impacts → be aware and plan ahead.
Orange Warning: Higher impacts → potential for disruptions.
Red Warning: Severe impacts → major disruption expected.
