Sicamous Calf barn lost in overnight fire at D Dutchmen Dairy

September 24 2026 SICAMOUS - A barn dating from the 1960's at D Dutchmen Dairy was destroyed in a fire that started around 1 a.m. Thursday, killing about 40 calves from birth to six months old.
No people were injured.
Bianca Colonna, a Dewitt family member, said the barn held “pretty much all of our calves” in that age range.
Firefighters have not released and official cause for the blaze.
Collonna said the barn built by her grandparents burned very quickly and that there were no grown cows in the destroyed barn.
The popular Dutchmen Dairy store, not attached to the barn, is closed today as the family deals with the fires aftermath.
Colonna said day-to-day product operations are not shutting down for good. Staff planned to put up fencing so the dairy could open again. Despite the fire, the family milked at 3:30 a.m. with help from the fire department, which held a wall of another building.
Bianca praised fire crews, who used a ladder truck with a hose from above and stopped the fire from spreading, work she called “incredible” and “quite the task.”
The family hoped the store could reopen as soon as possible, likely Friday.

Asked whether they would rebuild, Colonna said her father is close to retirement. “We’ll see.”
