May 2, 2026 - BX fire crews battled a shed fire that had quickly spread to an adjacent duplex on Pleasant Valley Road in the area north of Vernon on Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The blaze was reported shortly after 8 a.m. in the 6900 block of Pleasant Valley Road near the Vernon Christian School. BX Swan Lake Fire Department was first on scene and found the structure heavily involved.
Crews called for mutual aid from Vernon Fire Rescue Services and the Armstrong/Spallumcheen Fire Department.
Despite the fire having gained a foothold in one half of the duplex, firefighters prevented the fire from destroying the second unit of the duplex, overcoming challenges accessing the attic in the older home.
No injuries were reported, but over half a dozen residents and their pets were displaced.
The fire has been ruled accidental, with possible electrical issues under investigation. Significant water damage affected both sides of the duplex.
The property is surrounded by steel fencing and watched by a security guard.
