Vernon Fire Rescue Quickly Extinguishes Grass Fire on Turtle Mountain
July 10 2026 - Vernon Fire Rescue Services made short work of a roughly 70-by-70-metre grass fire burning on an undeveloped section of Turtle Mountain early Friday morning.

An alert resident reported the blaze in a grassy area above nearby residences. Fire crews located the fire up a dirt access road in the 5000 block of Turtle Pond Place.
Vernon Fire Rescue responded with engines and water tenders, initially calling a third alarm for additional personnel.
The response was later upgraded to a fourth alarm as crews worked the scene.

Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and remained on site for mop-up to ensure it was fully extinguished.
The approximatly 0.5 hectare fire was contained before it could spread and threaten nearby structures.
The cause has not yet been officially determined, though witnesses speculated it may have been started by a "campfire".
