Winter weather warnings remain in effect for southern B.C. highways east of Hope
December 16 2025 - Drivers travelling east of Hope are being urged to use caution as winter weather warnings and special statements continue to affect several major routes.

A snowfall warning remains in effect for the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Merritt, where 25 to 35 centimetres of snow is expected through Wednesday evening.
Snow levels are forecast to lower overnight to near valley bottoms, with gusty southwest winds up to 80 kilometres per hour creating areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility. Road closures remain possible.
A special weather statement is also in effect for the Fraser Canyon near Lytton, where heavy rain and strong winds are expected tonight.
Rainfall totals of 10 to 20 millimetres are forecast, with up to 40 millimetres near Boston Bar, along with wind gusts reaching 80 kilometres per hour overnight.
Conditions are expected to remain unsettled into Wednesday.
In the Fraser Canyon, Highway 1 between Hope and Yale remains open, but drivers should watch for water pooling and heavy rain, particularly between Haig Station Road and Regent Street. Conditions may change quickly as rainfall and wind continue through the area.
On Highway 3, a snowfall advisory remains in effect near Allison Pass, where accumulating snow and strong winds are expected. However, the highway remains closed in both directions between 63 kilometres west of Princeton and four kilometres east of Hope due to debris on the roadway.
There is no estimated time of reopening, and an engineering assessment is underway, reducing the immediate travel impact of the weather advisory.
Elsewhere, drivers on the Okanagan Connector (Highway 97C) are being warned of slippery sections between Pennask Summit and Aspen Grove, with snow, blowing snow, and strong winds continuing into Wednesday.
