No more falling back or jumping forward for British Columbians

March 2 2026 - British Columbia will adopt permanent, year-round daylight saving time following the upcoming “spring forward” on March 8, 2026 — marking the final twice-yearly clock change for most residents.

Clocks will move ahead one hour on Sunday, March 8, and will not be turned back on Nov. 1 as previously scheduled. Instead, the province will remain on Pacific time year-round.

The change is intended to reduce disruptions for families and businesses, simplify scheduling and provide more evening daylight during the winter months. Government says more than 223,000 people participated in public engagement in 2019, with 93 per cent supporting the move to permanent daylight saving time.

The shift is enabled under the Interpretation Amendment Act, passed in 2019, with regulations bringing the change into effect after March 8. Government says organizations and businesses will have eight months to prepare for the elimination of the fall time change.

Most of BC will observe the new Pacific time year-round.

Communities in northeastern and southeastern B.C. that currently follow mountain time practices will continue to determine their own time observance under existing local arrangements.
