Missing Vernon man Guy Rutledge found safe after multi-day search

Vernon, B.C. May 7 2026 - A happy ending to a worrying search: 70-year-old Guy Walter Reginald Rutledge has been safely located.

Rutledge was found near the rail trail in the Vernon area around 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 7.
Members of Vernon Search and Rescue (VSAR) were actively searching trails and the waterfront when he was spotted. Rutledge was taken to a waiting ambulance for an initial medical assessment.

RCMP, BC Ambulance Service, and Vernon Search and Rescue teams attended the scene.
Rutledge had not been heard from since May 2, when he told family he planned to cycle from the Okanagan to Vancouver Island via Kelowna.
His disappearance prompted concern from loved ones and an official missing person appeal from Vernon North Okanagan RCMP on May 7.
No further details on his condition have been released.
