We took a ride on the Kettle Valley Christmas Express Through Summerland
SUMMERLAND - The Kettle Valley Steam Railway launched its annual Christmas Express this week, drawing families, couples, and holiday-season day-trippers for a festive one-hour ride aboard the historic 1912 steam locomotive.

Passengers boarded at the Summerland station, which was decked out in full holiday style, twinkling lights, seasonal décor, and a bustling platform complete with a gift shop, hot drinks, souvenirs, and a busy crowd warming up ahead of departure.
The train, its vintage cars lined with Christmas lights along the luggage racks, offered a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere as the steam engine pulled out for the roughly 10-mile round trip.
While the evening darkness meant limited views outside, riders found the mood inside carried the experience.

A musician played guitar and led familiar Christmas carols that had the entire car singing along. Santa and Mrs. Claus made their way through the coaches, greeting passengers of all ages, a highlight for kids and, judging by the smiles, more than a few adults.

Lights along the track appeared here and there as the train made its way to the turnaround point and back, but the main draw was clearly the lively onboard atmosphere. For many families, the blend of music, vintage rail charm, and holiday characters delivered the tradition they came for.

The Christmas Express continues through December with multiple evening departures.
