THE TIMELINE:
The Incident (January 27, 2025): Roy Winter allegedly parked his "Mr. Chill Ice Cream" van across the eastbound lanes of the William R. Bennett Bridge between Kelowna and West Kelowna.
The incident triggered a major police response, closing the bridge for approximately 10 hours until after 2:00 p.m.
Medical and Custody Update:
Following his arrest, Winter spent nearly two months in hospital receiving medical care before being formally transferred into police custody in March 2025.
Committed to Trial (July 17–18, 2026):
Following a preliminary inquiry held earlier this month, a provincial court judge ruled there is sufficient evidence for the case to proceed.
The matter has now been committed to the BC Supreme Court for a trial by judge and jury.
The Charges:
Winter remains in custody facing 11 criminal charges.
The Crown alleges offences including arson, making or possessing explosives, mischief endangering life, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, and several related counts.
