Early Morning Fire at Vernon Heritage Post Office



UPDATE: VFRS has determined the Wednesday morning fire at Vernon's heritage post office is suspicious and is recommending an investigation.


Vernon City Hall Release:

Vernon firefighters quickly contained and extinguished a structure fire in the downtown core this morning, keeping it from spreading to nearby trees.

An early fire investigation confirms the fire started on the exterior of a cabin structure in the 3000-block of 31st Avenue, in a park space adjacent to Lower BX Creek, across the street from the Schubert Centre.

“The fire caused minor damage to the exterior and roof of the building, but crews stopped it from spreading to the interior,” said Deputy Fire Chief Alan Hofsink. “No injuries were reported during the incident. The fire has been deemed suspicious and the file has been handed over to the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP for investigation.



Original Story: Post Office Vernon Fire Rescue responded quickly to reports Vernon's first post office, a heritage building was on fire. The call to 911 came in shortly after 8 AM. Fire crews were able to knock down the fire quickly.



The log building appears to be mostly intact. No cause or reports of injuries at this time.


Vernons Heritage Post Office is located at 30th Avenue and 31st Avenue, just behind the Freshco.
