Drug Advisory: Rising Carfentanil Dangers in Down

July 7, 2025: Interior Health has issued a critical drug advisory for all regions due to an alarming increase in carfentanil detection in Down opioid samples over the past month.

Carfentanil, up to 100 times more potent than fentanyl and found in concentrations up to 4%, poses a severe overdose and fatality risk.

The samples often contain benzodiazepines and tranquilizers, amplifying the danger. Health officials urge users to get drugs checked at drug-checking locations via interior.drugchecking.ca and to avoid using alone.
