What Happened
A fire broke out Monday evening at the Mandalay Condos on the 7800 block of Okanagan Landing Road, prompting a swift response from Vernon Fire Rescue. Multiple 911 calls were received just before 6:30 p.m., with witnesses reporting visible smoke and flames coming from an upper-floor balcony.

Fire crews arrived quickly and were able to extinguish the blaze before it could spread significantly. The fire appeared to have damaged two balconies believed to be part of the same unit. Some witnesses at the scene told ExNews that the fire started from a barbeque and may have extended to the roof area directly above the burning deck.

Traffic and Community Response
Okanagan Landing Road was closed in both directions during the emergency response. Vehicles were rerouted through the Okanagan Yacht Club driveway, with the assistance of a local resident who stepped in to help direct traffic until emergency crews took over.

No Injuries Reported
No injuries have been reported, and the interior condition of the affected condo unit has not been confirmed. While there is no official cause of the fire yet, early witness accounts point to a barbeque as the possible source.
