October 23, 2023: The Columbia and Kootenay regions are witnessing the first snowfall of the season, courtesy of a slow-moving arctic front.
The affected areas include the Trans-Canada Highway stretch from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass, West Columbia, East Columbia, Yoho Park - Kootenay Park, Kinbasket, East Kootenay - North (including Invermere and Elk Valley).
The snowfall, expected to continue until Tuesday afternoon, has brought varying amounts of snow to different locations. Rogers Pass, Yoho Park - Kootenay Park, and Elk Valley are anticipated to receive between 5 to 15 cm of snow, while Revelstoke, Golden, Tsar Creek, and East Kootenay North (including Invermere) can expect 5 cm or less.
In Revelstoke, Golden, and Tsar Creek, the evening started with a mix of showers and flurries, transitioning into continuous periods of snow tonight.
Meanwhile, Rogers Pass and Yoho Park and Kootenay Park will experience consistent snowfall until Tuesday.
For East Kootenay and Elk Valley, the snowfall is expected to commence tonight and persist until late Tuesday afternoon.
Residents and travelers along these regions are advised to exercise caution and be prepared for winter driving conditions.
