Big Response, Big Results: Wildfire Near Killiney Beach Quickly Contained

July 3 2025: A fast-moving wildfire near Killiney Beach along Westside Road prompted a significant response from BC Wildfire Service and emergency crews on Wednesday, but was quickly brought under control.


The fire, identified as K40828, was discovered on July 2, 2025, and burned approximately 1.75 hectares before being contained.

o far the official cause of the fire is human activity.

BC Wildfire Service classified the blaze as “Under Control,” meaning it is not expected to grow beyond its current perimeter.


Multiple resources responded, including aerial support. A birddog aircraft made several assessment passes overhead as part of the coordinated attack on the fire. Ground crews and equipment were also deployed, and Westside Road was closed temporarily during the firefighting effort.


While the wildfire was being addressed, emergency responders were also dispatched to a nearby motor vehicle accident. According to the BC Hydro outage map, the crash caused a power outage affecting 1,457 customers along Westside Road. There has been no official confirmation yet on whether the accident was related to the wildfire.


So far the official cause of the fire is human activity.


As of this writing, Westside Road has reopened and no evacuation orders or area restrictions are currently in effect.
