Fraser Canyon under pressure as Brunswick Complex remains out of control
July 12 2026 - British Columbia’s wildfire activity remains elevated, with the Brunswick Complex in the Fraser Canyon continuing to burn aggressively and impact travel along Highway 1.

Current SituationÂ
22 active wildfires province-wide.
Multiple fires remain out of control, led by two large incidents in the Coastal Fire Centre.
Year-to-date: 440 wildfires started, burning 25,225 hectares.
Key Fires Â
Brunswick Creek (V10742) — 2,836 hectares, out of control. Discovered July 2. Human-caused. 7 Evacuation Orders and 2 Evacuation Alerts in effect for nearby properties and First Nations communities.
Ainslie Creek (V10755) — 15,847 hectares, out of control. Part of the same complex. Evacuation Alert remains in place.
Smaller out-of-control fires are also burning in the Kamloops and Southeast Fire Centres, but the Coastal fires are driving the majority of current impacts.

Road & Travel Impacts (DriveBC)
Highway 1 (Trans-Canada) — Lane closures and reduced speeds (60 km/h) in the Boston Bar / Jackass Summit area due to active firefighting. Motorists are urged to watch for crews, signage, and possible delays. Conditions remain dynamic.
Chaumox Road (Cho-mox Road) — Fully closed in both directions due to wildfire activity.
Weather & Outlook
Warming and drying conditions are forecast to continue through the weekend, especially in southern BC, with patchy elevated winds. Smoke and haze are affecting parts of the interior and north. Open burning prohibitions remain in force across several fire centres.
Officials continue to remind the public to avoid drone use near fires and to stay out of closed areas.
Firefighters and heavy equipment are working extended shifts on the Brunswick Complex.
