Apartment Fire Forces Evacuations in Vernon Wednesday Morning

March 25 2026 - An early morning fire tore through a two-storey apartment building in Vernon, sending residents fleeing and drawing a large emergency response.

The blaze at Parkview Garden Apartments, located at 2312 36th Street, was first reported shortly before 6 a.m. Witnesses at the scene said flames were shooting higher than the building as the fire spread rapidly through the west end of the complex.
At least half a dozen fire trucks responded, with mutual aid crews called in from Armstrong, Coldstream, and BX fire departments. BC Hydro, BC Emergency Health Services, and Royal Canadian Mounted Police were also on scene.

All residents are believed to have been evacuated from the building. There were reports that one person may have been trapped for a short time but that information is unconfirmed.
There were unconfirmed accounts of one person being taken from the scene on a stretcher with unknown injuries.
Emergency Support Services (ESS) and a city bus were called in to assist displaced residents.
By around 9 a.m., the fire had been knocked down, and crews had moved into the mop-up phase.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
